The Alabama DOT put on what was one of the most enjoyable conferences I can remember attending. IHEEP 2013 will be hosted by Kansas DOT September 8 -11 in Overland Park, Kansas. The DOTs are facing one of the most difficult challenges of any government agency. Their funding is being cut in some cases to pre-1990 levels while their assets are badly in need of repair. Innovative geospatial technologies such as 3D model-based design, mobile LiDAR and machine control are critical to their ability to do more with less. It's a major business development opportunity.
The next edition of LiDAR Magazine will ship just in time for INTERGEO, the world's largest geospatial technologies venue and GEOINT 2012, one of the most important defense industry conferences. Our team will be on-site at both events—drop us a line if you'd like to meet up. We appreciate your support in building this professional community.

Preserving Oregon's History - One Scan at a Time
A couple of years ago, my colleagues and I were researching applications for our laser scanner. As a company, i-TEN Associates was still pretty green on the use of the scanner and the markets that would most benefit from the technology we were holding. Historical preservation was a topic that kept coming to our attention and seemed like something that we could do. It was most certainly an interesting topic and the more I ...

New Articles from the LiDAR News team...
|
Coordinates and BIM: John Russo AIA – Another scan to BIM modeling project is getting underway and I know it's just a matter of time before the monster rears its ugly head. It's so predictable, but it seems that no matter what I do to avoid it, no matter how hard I try to deal with it up front, the monster keeps re-appearing. If I could only find a way to make it go away and ...

New Point Cloud Modeling Workflow Speeds Revit MEP Modeling: Chris Scotton – Revit loves “perfect”. We all know it’s an incredibly powerful tool for new construction design which is almost always perfectly plumb, perfectly parallel. However, in the as-built world, perfect is merely a lofty ideal brought to earth by the reality of sagging pipes, bowing walls and undocumented ...

ScanLook Experience Outside the U.S. : Jeff & Daniel Fagerman – Recently our company, LiDAR USA was asked to scan 1,000 miles of railway outside the US. In this short article I would like to share the non-technical considerations of the project, mostly related to working projects outside of the U.S., as well as on a rail system. Meeting Equipment Requirements and Limitations ...
