Well, the 2012 London Summer Olympics are in the books and overall it seemed like a smooth running event. Laser scanning was used both to support the physical construction and the athletes. Creaform reports that 18 year-old Australian sensation Jessica Fox won silver in the slalom K1 race at the London 2012 Olympic Games. We had a blog on this before the Games began.
Even though I didn't attend, the editor of The American Surveyor attended the Survey Summit in San Diego and his report can be found HERE. Esri presented an entire day on LiDAR. I did receive a letter from the President of NSPS—National Society of Professional Surveyors—asking for support. In addition I met the President-elect of AAGS—American Association of Geodetic Surveying—Michael Dennis. This may be an organization to get behind if you are interested in 3D.
I trust you have all seen the latest LiDAR Magazine. This is our largest issue to date. You can choose to receive either a digital or hard copy on the website. I am always looking for good articles so if you have an idea please let me know, and encourage your colleagues to sign up for this newsletter HERE. We thank you for ongoing support in building this professional community.

LiDAR News is updated 24/7 with the latest news and announcements affecting the business..
Leaning LiDAR Product Development
Long before Eric Ries published his must-read book The Lean Startup, its terms and principles were beginning to be applied within the startup mecca that is Silicon Valley. Since the book was published last year, buzzwords like “pivot” and “minimum viable product” have been woven into the fabric of the small business world, at times nearly to the point of overuse. Many of the concepts and ideas are not new. In fact, much of The Lean ...

LIDAR Best Practices: Part VI – Object Classification: Lewis Graham – In the previous installment, we examined some of the intermediate steps that can be used in "classifying" LIDAR data where the objects of interest are very similar to the surrounding points. We specifically looked at the problems associated with classifying at-grade (meaning same elevation as the surroundings ...
